Valentine's Day Whole Wheat Sugar Cookies

I've noticed that the craze on the web is mixing rainbow colors in baked goods, here is a little twist for Valentine's day.

You'll Need

  • 1/2 c & 6 Tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c & 3 Tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 c whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Pink, Blue, and Red food coloring

Steps:
1. In a mixing bowl add: butter, sugar, egg and vanilla and mix well.
2. Add the dry ingredients to the mixture: all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt and baking soda and mix well.
3. Separate the dough equally into three parts.
4. Add color to dough... 10 drops of pink for Pink dough, 12 drops of pink and 2 drops of Blue for Raspberry dough, and then 10 drops of red for Red dough.
5. Place dough in fridge for about an hour.
6. When you are ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
7. Remove dough from fridge and roll each dough color into a big ball.
8. Take all three dough balls and combine them. Roll them together into one big long log so the dough looks almost marbled.
9. Roll dough into long strings and shape them into pinwheels or any shape you prefer. (I don't have any cookie cutters so I made pinwheels).
10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, add sprinkles as soon as they are out of the oven.
